Decoding COP29: Impacts on Global Climate Action and India’s Path Forward

The 29th session of the Conference of Parties (COP29) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) marked a critical juncture in global climate negotiations. The decisions made at COP29 will be pivotal in shaping national and international trajectories toward achieving the 2030 and 2050 climate goals. For developing countries, COP29 underscored the urgent need for equitable access to resources, technologies, and capacity-building to combat climate change effectively. These nations often bear the brunt of climate impacts despite contributing minimally to global emissions. COP29 outcomes revealed both opportunities and challenges in addressing the climate finance gap, with the USD 300 billion climate finance agreement falling short of the USD 1.3 trillion annual demand of developing countries and with rising concerns about the delayed progress in adaptation and resilience-building for vulnerable populations.

This webinar aims to carefully examine the highlights of COP29, facilitate discussions on their impact on climate policies and actions in India, and explore avenues to foster implementation and collaboration among stakeholders.
