GIS Analyst

We are seeking a Geospatial Analyst to collect, analyse, and visualise spatial data in support of research on climate, energy, and sustainability.


Responsibilities


  • Collect, create, edit, and manage spatial and tabular data using ESRI ArcGIS Pro and/or QGIS.
  • Perform core spatial analyses and geoprocessing tasks (e.g. overlay analysis, spatial queries, and zonal statistics) to support research projects.
  • Conduct rigorous quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) on geospatial data and outputs.
  • Develop clear, concise, and publication-quality static maps and figures for reports, briefs, and presentations.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated hands-on experience with ESRI ArcGIS Pro and/or QGIS, gained through academic projects, internships, or professional work.

Analyst/Senior Analyst

We are seeking a dynamic, skilled, and experienced professional for the position of Analyst/Senior Analyst to join the Energy and Power team at CSTEP and support ongoing work on Just Transition. The Analyst will play a vital role in analysing and assessing the regulatory landscape and policy developments impacting Just Transition in India, particularly in the context of renewable energy development. The role will also involve contributing to the formulation of strategies and recommendations to help achieve India’s Just Transition goals while implementing energy transition policies.

The shortlisted candidate will lead analytical and policy-oriented research on energy transition, with a strong focus on justice and equity. This position requires strong technical, analytical, and policy skills, along with the ability to engage effectively with both internal and external stakeholders.


Responsibilities


  • Research and Analysis
  • Lead research on Just Transition pathways for renewable energy (RE) development across Indian states, with emphasis on social, economic, and environmental impacts on affected communities.
  • Assess technical, economic, and policy levers to drive fair and inclusive energy transitions, including workforce reskilling, community benefit-sharing, land-use planning, and equitable access to clean energy.
  • Evaluate state-level RE characteristics, including resource potential, local economic dependencies, and social vulnerability indicators, to inform and contextualise transition strategies.
  • Stakeholder Engagement
  • Collaborate with stakeholders at state, national, and community levels to co-develop actionable recommendations for just and equitable RE deployment.
  • Prepare policy briefs, technical reports, presentations, and journal articles to share research findings and recommendations.
  • Represent the organisation in research forums, energy transition discussions, roundtables, and conferences, providing expert insights and influencing policy conversations.

Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s or Master's degree in a relevant field such as law, public policy, economics, environmental studies, or a related social science field. 
  • 3–5 years of professional experience in one or more of the following areas: energy transition research, Just Transition planning, renewable energy policy and planning, socio-economic impact assessment, community engagement, data analytics, and policy advocacy and communications.
