Intern

We are seeking an Intern to support secondary research on energy-intensive industrial sectors, with a focus on industrial decarbonisation. The role involves data collection and analysis, techno-commercial assessment of clean and emerging technologies, evaluation of manufacturing processes for energy and GHG reduction opportunities, and review of policy frameworks, compliance standards, and gaps. The Intern will also contribute to sector-level energy and emission benchmarking, analysis of India’s industrial energy/emission profile, and identification of short-, mid-, and long-term decarbonisation strategies aligned with national commitments. The role may include field surveys, stakeholder interactions, and coordination with project teams to support timely deliverables.


Responsibilities


  • Conduct source-driven secondary research on large energy-intensive and MSME sectors in India, aligned with the role overview.
  • Engage with industrial stakeholders, sectoral OEMs, and other relevant entities to collect data and gain insights.
  • Record and organise data in structured MS Excel formats.
  • Ensure completeness, consistency, and quality of collected data.
  • Assist with data cleaning, validation, and documentation.
  • Support the project team’s reporting and deliverable requirements.


Qualifications


Final-year students or recent graduates with a bachelor’s or master’s degree (or equivalent) in chemical, petrochemical, or biochemical engineering; industrial chemistry; materials science; metallurgical or electrical engineering; or a related field.


Skills and Experience


  • Internship or short-term experience in chemical plants, refineries, pharmaceuticals, or related sectors, including associated energy systems (preferred).
  • Familiarity with environmental compliance, sustainability practices, or energy efficiency initiatives.
  • Basic understanding of GHG accounting, energy audits, or environmental impact assessments.

The role involves shaping project strategy, conducting in-depth technical and financial analysis, engaging with a diverse set of stakeholders, and contributing to actionable policy recommendations that address the barriers to large-scale solarisation of the agriculture sector. This position offers a unique opportunity to influence India's energy transition by bringing together insights from DISCOM operations, regulatory frameworks, RE policies, and on-ground field realities.


Responsibilities


  • Lead techno-economic and policy analysis on the solarisation of agricultural demand, including evaluation of deployment models (e.g. feeder-level solarisation, on-grid and off-grid pump solarisation, and KUSUM components) and their suitability across different state contexts.
  • Develop and review financial models to assess project economics, including tariff design, Levelised Cost of Electricity (LCOE), subsidy structures, viability gap funding, and developer returns, to support evidence-based recommendations.
