Senior Analyst

We are seeking a dynamic, technically skilled professional for the position of Senior Analyst on the Energy Policy and Regulations team. The Senior Analyst will play a key role in evaluating the implications of future tariff increases resulting from investments in power system reliability, resilience, security, and sustainability, as well as in electricity demand forecasting, with a strong focus on socio-economic and weather parameters that affect electricity demand. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to policy-relevant research and help shape the future of India’s energy transition.


Responsibilities


  • Lead research on developing an overall analytical framework for estimating electricity demand elasticity across consumer categories.
  • Design methodologies for assessing short-run and long-run price elasticity, income elasticity, and consumer migration to alternative supply arrangements.
  • Review existing tariff structures, open access regulations, and demand-side management frameworks.
  • Assess implications of renewable integration costs, transmission investments, and grid modernisation on consumer tariffs.
  • Lead research and analytical studies on electricity demand forecasting at national, state, DISCOM, and feeder levels, incorporating socio-economic indicators, tariff structures, and weather parameters to develop robust demand projections.
  • Track and analyse distribution sector policies, regulatory developments, and emerging technologies, generating strategic insights through data analytics and quantitative modelling to support evidence-based policy recommendations.
  • Collaborate with state and national stakeholders to promote actionable recommendations.
  • Prepare policy briefs, technical reports, presentations, and journal articles to disseminate findings.
  • Willingness to travel within India to engage with different states as per the requirements of projects.


Qualifications


Master's degree in Energy Economics, Sustainable Energy, or a relevant field.


Skill Set


  • Experience in power sector research, regulatory analysis, energy economics, or quantitative policy analysis.
  • Demonstrated experience in electricity tariff analysis and demand forecasting and analysis, using socio-economic, tariff, and weather parameters across national, state, DISCOM, or feeder levels.
  • Strong understanding of the Indian power sector, particularly DISCOM regulations, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and quantitative modelling, with strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and familiarity with statistical tools, such as R and Python.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal.

Senior Analyst

We are looking for a Senior Analyst passionate about building a cleaner, smarter, and more resilient power grid. The role involves solving complex power system challenges while contributing to impactful public policy. The position offers the opportunity to work at the forefront of India’s energy transition and collaborate with government agencies, utilities, and leading experts to develop innovative solutions to integrate renewable energy, strengthen the transmission network, and plan the power system of the future. This is a two-year fixed-term contract, with the opportunity to work on high-impact national and state-level projects in the power sector.


Responsibilities 


  • Execute power system planning studies covering generation, transmission, and distribution networks.
  • Interact with state power sector officials to collect data required for planning studies.
  • Develop technical reports, policy briefs, presentations, and other project deliverables.
  • Present research findings and recommendations to senior management and relevant stakeholders.
  • Prepare concept notes, project ideas, and proposals on pertinent topics, considering their societal implications and applicability.


Qualifications and Experience


  • BE/ME/MTech in Electrical Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Power Systems, or a relevant field
  • 3–5 years of hands-on experience in executing transmission and distribution planning studies.


Skill Set 


  • Hands-on experience in power system transmission network planning studies.
  • Experience in conducting load flow, short-circuit, and transient stability studies.
  • Understanding of renewable energy grid integration studies.
  • Understanding of the operational aspects of power generation, transmission, and distribution.
  • Ability to document and publish research findings through detailed reports, journals, conferences, op-eds, and newsletters.
  • Willingness to undertake technical and policy research in the power sector.
  • Willingness to travel for data collection and presentation of study results to utilities.
  • Hands-on experience with power flow analysis software such as DigSILENT, PSS/E, ETAP, MiPower, CYME, etc.
  • Knowledge of Python programming is an added advantage.
