Analyst/Senior Analyst

The candidate must be well versed in the technical and policy aspects of energy storage and its application in the energy and power sector. She/he should meet the requirements related to deliverables and project schedule, and should coordinate and communicate effectively with internal and external teams to meet the project objectives.


Responsibilities

  • Conduct research related to the field of energy storage
  • Undertake economic analysis in the areas of energy and power sector such as energy storage, renewable energy, electric mobility, electricity transmission and distribution, to support policy decisions
  • Conduct research related to least cost resource planning for different states
  • Conduct research related to load flow, short-circuit, reliability, and contingency analysis for both transmission and distribution
  • Develop financial/ econometric models pertaining to energy and power sector 
  • Compile energy market data, analyse market trends, including demand, supply and price projections
  • Establish communication and coordinate for data/analysis with relevant stakeholders(government, industry, and academia) for energy and power sector
  • Document and publish the research findings in detailed reports, journals and conferences, op-eds, newsletters



Qualifications


MTech in energy/power or its equivalent in a related field.



Skill Set


  • Ability to produce high-quality research reports, white papers, journals, policy briefs, etc.
  • Willingness to travel frequently to collect necessary data and discuss study findings.
  • Willingness to undertake technical and policy research in the energy domain.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft suite (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel).
  • Competence in using power system planning tools, as well as in using software and statistical tools (Python, R, SAS, tableau, SPSS, etc.) to develop economic models and derive results.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and good interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a multi-functional team.
  • Expertise in carrying out least-cost resource planning for power sector, power flow 
  • analysis, power electronics, cost-benefit, life-cycle cost, impacts, forecasting, market 
  • penetration, and consequences analyses of energy 
  • Expertise in carrying out load-flow, short-circuit, reliability, and contingency analysis in relevant power system software
  • Prepare medium to long-term energy sector outlook reports for various states 
  • Willingness to undertake technical and policy research in energy domain

Intern

We are looking for an Intern to support field data collection for the preparation of the Model Solar Village DPR for the J&K Energy Development Agency (JAKEDA). The role involves conducting ground surveys, engaging with local stakeholders, and assisting technical teams through structured data collection and documentation. The candidate should be willing to travel locally and coordinate with project teams to support timely project deliverables.


Preference will be given to candidates from the following locations: Anantnag, Baramulla, Budgam, Ganderbal, Kulgam, Kupwara, Pulwama, Shopian, Srinagar, and Bandipora.


Responsibilities 


  • Conduct ground surveys in assigned villages and project locations.
  • Collect field data related to electricity consumption, rooftop suitability, and local energy infrastructure.
  • Engage with households, local businesses, and other stakeholders during surveys.
  • Record and maintain survey data in structured MS Excel formats.
  • Ensure the completeness, consistency, and quality of collected data.
  • Support the project team in DPR preparation by providing field-based inputs.
  • Assist with data cleaning, validation, and documentation.
  • Support the project team in meeting reporting requirements.
  • Coordinate with JAKEDA and other government officials, as required.

 

Qualifications 


Currently pursuing a Diploma, BE/BTech, or Polytechnic in Electrical, Electronics, or related disciplines.


Skill Set 


  • Basic knowledge of electrical engineering concepts and solar energy systems.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel (data entry, formatting, and basic formulas).
  • Basic working knowledge of MS Word.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to travel for field surveys.
  • Strong attention to detail and data accuracy.

Senior Analyst

We are seeking a dynamic, technically strong professional to join the Energy Policy and Regulations team at CSTEP as a Senior Analyst. The role will involve leading and supporting work on electricity demand forecasting, with a strong focus on integrating socio-economic and weather-related drivers of demand. The candidate will also contribute to GHG accounting for DISCOM decarbonisation and city-level net-zero planning. This is a high-impact opportunity to work on policy-relevant research and contribute meaningfully to shaping India’s energy transition.


Responsibilities

 

  • Contribute to research and analytical studies on electricity demand forecasting across national, state, DISCOM, and feeder levels, integrating socio-economic indicators, tariff structures, and weather parameters to develop robust projections.
  • Support the development of GHG accounting frameworks for DISCOMs and city-level net-zero planning, including emission baseline estimation, scenario analysis, and decarbonisation pathway assessment.
  • Track and analyse distribution sector policies, regulatory developments, and emerging technologies; generate strategic insights through data analytics and quantitative modelling to inform evidence-based policy recommendations.
  • Collaborate with state and national stakeholders to co-develop and advance actionable recommendations.
  • Prepare policy briefs, technical reports, presentations, and journal articles to effectively communicate research findings.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to travel within India to engage with stakeholders and support project requirements (travel requirements may vary by project).


Qualifications


Master's degree in a relevant field such as energy economics and sustainable energy.


Skill Set


  • Proven experience in electricity demand forecasting, incorporating socio-economic, tariff, and weather drivers across national, state, DISCOM, or feeder levels.
  • Strong understanding of the Indian power sector, particularly DISCOM operations and regulatory frameworks.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and quantitative modelling, with advanced Excel skills and working knowledge of R and/or Python.
  • Knowledge of GHG accounting and decarbonisation approaches for DISCOMs and city-level net-zero planning.
  • Familiarity with emerging energy technologies, including EVs, rooftop solar, distributed energy resources, and energy efficiency.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate technical analysis into clear, policy-relevant insights.
  • Ability to support end-to-end project delivery, including proposals, analysis, and reporting.
  • Capability to work across technical and policy domains and collaborate effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
