Analyst/Senior Analyst

We are seeking a dynamic, skilled, and experienced professional for the position of Analyst/Senior Analyst to join the Energy and Power team at CSTEP and support ongoing work on Just Transition. The Analyst will play a vital role in analysing and assessing the regulatory landscape and policy developments impacting Just Transition in India, particularly in the context of renewable energy development. The role will also involve contributing to the formulation of strategies and recommendations to help achieve India’s Just Transition goals while implementing energy transition policies.

The shortlisted candidate will lead analytical and policy-oriented research on energy transition, with a strong focus on justice and equity. This position requires strong technical, analytical, and policy skills, along with the ability to engage effectively with both internal and external stakeholders.


Responsibilities


  • Research and Analysis
  • Lead research on Just Transition pathways for renewable energy (RE) development across Indian states, with emphasis on social, economic, and environmental impacts on affected communities.
  • Assess technical, economic, and policy levers to drive fair and inclusive energy transitions, including workforce reskilling, community benefit-sharing, land-use planning, and equitable access to clean energy.
  • Evaluate state-level RE characteristics, including resource potential, local economic dependencies, and social vulnerability indicators, to inform and contextualise transition strategies.
  • Stakeholder Engagement
  • Collaborate with stakeholders at state, national, and community levels to co-develop actionable recommendations for just and equitable RE deployment.
  • Prepare policy briefs, technical reports, presentations, and journal articles to share research findings and recommendations.
  • Represent the organisation in research forums, energy transition discussions, roundtables, and conferences, providing expert insights and influencing policy conversations.
  • Willingness to travel across India to engage with stakeholders and support project requirements.


Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s or Master's degree in a relevant field such as law, public policy, economics, environmental studies, or a related social science field. 
  • 3–5 years of professional experience in one or more of the following areas: energy transition research, Just Transition planning, renewable energy policy and planning, socio-economic impact assessment, community engagement, data analytics, and policy advocacy and communications.


Skill Set


  • In-depth knowledge of India's regulatory framework, policies, and market dynamics in the renewable energy and power sectors, with an understanding of the social and economic impacts of energy transitions.
  • Familiarity with energy transition trends, Just Transition best practices, emerging clean energy technologies, and leading sustainability frameworks.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex regulatory and policy documents and provide strategic recommendations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including proficiency in preparing presentations and reports.
  • Demonstrated experience engaging stakeholders and cultivating effective relationships with regulatory authorities, industry associations, and state-level government agencies.
  • Proven ability to lead and collaborate within cross-functional teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong problem-solving capabilities and the capacity to work efficiently under tight deadlines.

Communications Officer – Design (Video Editing)

We are seeking a creative and experienced video editor to join our Communication and Policy Engagement (CPE) team. This full-time role combines video production with on-camera communication, aimed at bringing CSTEP’s research stories to life for diverse audiences.


Responsibilities


  • Conceptualise, storyboard, and produce high-quality video content for social media, campaigns, and documentaries.
  • Be open to serving as an on/off-camera presenter/host for CSTEP videos, interviews, and explainer series.
  • Edit short films, research explainers, and event highlights in line with CSTEP’s brand voice.
  • Collaborate with researchers and communication specialists to translate complex research into engaging visual stories.
  • Manage end-to-end video production, from storyboarding and filming to post-production and publishing.
  • Capture behind-the-scenes footage, field visuals, and expert interviews.
  • Explore AI-based video and motion design tools to enhance storytelling.
  • Experiment with innovative video formats to make research accessible and relatable to the public.
  • Adapt long-form content (like webinars or panel discussions) into short, social-ready clips.
  • Support live-streaming or virtual event production when required.
  • Ensure visual consistency across all video outputs
  • Support photography requirements when needed.


Qualifications


Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Media Studies, Communication, Film, Animation, or a related field.



Skill Set


  • Proficiency in professional video editing and postproduction software, such as Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, and Audition.
  • Working knowledge of motion graphics or animation tools (e.g. Illustrator, After Effects templates, Canva Pro, or Blender basics).
  • Comfortable with handling a camera, lighting, and other on-field shooting equipment.
  • Strong grasp of design principles, visual rhythm, colour grading, pacing, and narrative structure.
  • Basic understanding of copyright, licensing, and content rights in digital media.
  • Ability to research, write scripts, and convert research insights into a storyboard with mass appeal.

Senior Associate

We’re seeking a technically grounded and impact-driven professional to lead our climate risk analytics and modelling work, with a focus on Heat Mapping and Risk Analysis. The role calls for a blend of scientific rigour, spatial insight, and policy understanding, translating high-resolution climate and socio-economic data into actionable risk intelligence for national and city-level decision-makers.


Responsibilities


  • Lead the design and implementation of national- and city-scale heat risk mapping and analysis frameworks, aligned with IPCC AR6 methodologies and tailored to India’s rapidly urbanising regions.
  • Oversee climate data processing and analysis and develop compound and cascading risk models that integrate heat, flood, and drought interactions using statistical and machine learning approaches.
  • Guide spatial analysis and GIS-based mapping of hazards, exposure, and vulnerability for integration into interactive dashboards and decision-support tools.
  • Ensure scientific accuracy and policy relevance by providing technical oversight for data-driven visualisation platforms.
  • Collaborate with national and state agencies to embed risk analytics into planning and policy decision-making processes.
  • Develop research publications, policy briefs, and presentations that enhance CSTEP’s thought leadership in climate and disaster risk domains.

Qualifications


PhD or Master’s degree in Climate Science, Atmospheric Science, Environmental Engineering, Geography, or Geoinformatics, with specialisation in heat stress, urban climatology, or multi-hazard risk modelling


Skill Set


  • Proven track record of working with interdisciplinary teams, publishing in peer-reviewed journals, and engaging with government or donor-led climate initiatives.
  • Experience in urban heat island analysis, hazard–exposure–vulnerability assessments, or the development of climate service tools is preferred.
  • Proficiency in data analytics and programming (Python, R, etc.) for statistical and spatial modelling; hands-on experience with QGIS/ArcGIS Pro and Power BI/Tableau.
  • Strong familiarity with climate datasets (IMD, CMIP6, ERA5, MODIS, and CORDEX) and geospatial data processing workflows.
  • Excellent analytical, mentoring, and communication skills.

Intern(Video Editing)

The Intern (Video Editing) will be a part of the Communication and Policy Engagement (CPE) team for 6 months and will assist in developing video content that supports CSTEP’s research and outreach initiatives. The intern will contribute to editing videos for documentaries, social media, and campaigns and will also support basic filming and photography assignments. The ideal candidate should possess a flair for visual storytelling, have a working knowledge of video editing tools, and be willing to learn through field-based projects. The role may also include travel for video documentation.


Responsibilities


  • Edit short films, documentaries, and social media reels.
  • Assist in creating video content for campaigns, reports, and event highlights.
  • Support storyboarding and motion design tasks using Adobe After Effects.
  • Assist with basic videography and photography when needed.
  • Use visual storytelling techniques to enhance research narratives.
  • Help organise and maintain video footage and file systems.
  • Explore the use of AI-based tools (e.g., Runway) for video enhancements (basic level).
  • Collaborate with researchers to deliver high-quality visual content.
