We are looking for an Analyst to support the Adaptation and Risk Analysis team in research and project activities related to multi-hazard risk assessment, climate risk, and hazard modelling. The role will involve working with geospatial, climate, and hazard datasets; supporting flood and extreme precipitation risk assessments; and contributing to the development of analytical outputs, technical reports, and other project deliverables.
Responsibilities
- Support hazard modelling and risk assessment for floods, extreme precipitation events, and other climate-related hazards.
- Conduct geospatial analysis using ArcGIS/QGIS for hazard mapping, vulnerability assessment, and risk analysis.
- Support the development of hazard susceptibility and risk maps using statistical and machine learning approaches.
- Assist in the pre-processing, analysis, and visualisation of geospatial and climate datasets using Python/R.
- Compile, process, and manage datasets from sources including satellite observations, climate datasets, and other relevant sources.
- Support the use of hydraulic and hydrological modelling tools for hazard assessment.
- Contribute to literature reviews, methodological development, and research related to hazard and climate risk modelling.
- Prepare and contribute to technical reports, presentations, documentation, and other project outputs.
- Collaborate with team members and support project activities, as required.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Hydrology, Water Resources, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
- 0–1 years of relevant experience, including academic or project experience in hazard assessment, climate risk, hydrology, geospatial analysis, or related areas.
- Demonstrated interest in working on research and projects related to natural hazards, climate risks, and adaptation.
Skill Set
- Basic understanding of natural hazards and climate risk assessment.
- Proficiency in GIS software, particularly ArcGIS or QGIS, is required.
- Basic programming skills in Python or R are required.
- Strong analytical, documentation, and communication skills.
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks, work independently, and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace.
- Knowledge of hydraulic or hydrological modelling tools such as HEC-RAS, PC-SWMM, or similar tools would be an advantage.
- Experience with remote-sensing data processing would be beneficial.
- Familiarity with climate datasets, including rainfall, temperature, climate indices, and other hazard drivers, is preferred.
- Experience handling geospatial and climate datasets would be useful.
- Familiarity with statistical or machine learning approaches for hazard susceptibility and risk mapping would be an advantage.
