Responsibilities

  • Assist in hazard modelling and risk assessment for floods, landslides, and extreme precipitation events.
  • Perform geospatial analysis using GIS software (ArcGIS/QGIS) for hazard mapping and vulnerability assessment.
  • Support the development of hazard susceptibility and risk maps using statistical or machine learning approaches.
  • Assist in data pre-processing and visualisation using programming tools (Python/R).
  • Compile and manage datasets from sources such as satellite observations and climate data.
  • Contribute to technical reports, documentation, and presentations.
  • Support the team in literature review and methodological development related to hazard and climate risk modelling.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a master’s degree in civil engineering, hydrology, water resources, environmental engineering, geoinformatics, climate science, data science, or a related field.
  • Evidenced interest/internships working on similar projects (0-1 years’ experience).

Skill Set

  • Knowledge of modelling tools for hazard assessment or modelling.
  • Experience with remote-sensing data processing.
  • Familiarity with climate datasets (e.g. rainfall, temperature, and climate indices) and hazard drivers.
  • Strong analytical, documentation, and communication skills.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and work independently.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace.
  • Basic understanding of natural hazards and climate risk assessment.
