Analyst

We are seeking a technically skilled Analyst to join our Energy Policy and Regulations team. The role focuses on distribution-system planning and operations, particularly load-flow analysis and involves assessing the impact of emerging technologies at the sub-distribution level. The Analyst will develop data-driven insights to support reliable DISCOM operations while contributing to policy-relevant research on India’s energy transition. The position also requires a strong understanding of the Indian power sector, along with the ability to manage project deliverables and communicate findings effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Lead research on distribution network load flows to assess impacts of DRE integration, EV uptake, rooftop solar, and optimal sizing/siting of BESS at feeder and DT levels.
  • Track and analyse policies, regulations, and emerging technologies in the distribution sector to generate data-driven insights for decision-making.
  • Evaluate state-level power system characteristics, including load curves and planning criteria, to inform infrastructure upgrade needs.
  • Collaborate with state and national stakeholders to develop and advance actionable recommendations.
  • Produce policy briefs, technical reports, presentations, and journal articles to communicate findings.
  • Travel across India, as required, to support stakeholder engagement and project execution.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s or Master's degree in a relevant field, such as Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Energy and Power Systems.

Skill Set

  • Experience with distribution network modelling and simulation tools (e.g. DIgSILENT and Python/R-based energy models) or transmission planning studies.
  • Strong understanding of DISCOM regulations, distribution planning criteria, and demand forecasting practices in India.
  • Familiarity with emerging technologies such as EVs, rooftop solar, energy efficiency, and solarised agricultural pumps.
  • Strong analytical and research skills, with proficiency in data analysis and the ability to interpret complex policy and regulatory documents.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, along with strong presentation skills.

Job

Senior Analyst

We are looking for a Senior Analyst to join the Renewables team at CSTEP. The ideal candidate should have strong expertise in the technical, analytical, and research-oriented aspects of the renewable energy (RE) sector, with a particular focus on solar photovoltaics, performance analysis, and techno-economic assessments. The candidate should demonstrate experience in advanced modelling, research publications, and project execution, and be capable of contributing to high-impact research, policy inputs, and stakeholder engagement.

The role requires the ability to independently manage research assignments, mentor junior team members, and deliver high-quality outputs aligned with organisational objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and contribute to advanced research on renewable energy technologies, with a focus on solar PV systems.
  • Conduct techno-economic assessments of RE systems, including modelling, simulation, and performance evaluation using tools such as PVSyst and HOMER.
  • Undertake analytical studies on system performance, degradation mechanisms, and optimisation strategies under varying climatic conditions.
  • Develop high-quality research outputs, including technical reports, policy briefs, journal publications, and conference papers for national and international platforms.
  • Contribute to proposal development, concept notes, and new project ideas aligned with emerging RE trends and national priorities.
  • Engage with stakeholders, including government agencies, DISCOMs, research institutions, and industry partners, for data collection, validation, and dissemination of findings.
  • Support capacity-building initiatives, training programmes, and technical workshops for sector stakeholders.
  • Mentor team members in research methodologies, modelling approaches, and technical writing.
  • Stay updated on global advancements in renewable energy technologies, particularly solar PV, hybrid systems, and emerging applications.

Qualifications

PhD in Renewable Energy / Energy Systems or a related field or Master’s degree in a relevant discipline

Skill Set

  • Strong academic and research background in renewable energy, with demonstrated publications in reputed journals and conferences.
  • Experience in renewable energy research, modelling, and analysis, with a focus on solar PV performance assessment and system optimisation.
  • Expertise in techno-economic modelling and simulation of renewable energy systems.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex datasets and derive actionable insights.
  • Experience in developing high-quality research papers, technical reports, and other knowledge products.
  • Proficiency in tools such as PVSyst, HOMER, MS Excel, and PowerPoint; programming skills in Python for data analysis and modelling are required.
  • Experience in stakeholder engagement, training delivery, or collaboration with government agencies, academic institutions, and industry partners is preferred.
  • Excellent technical writing, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deliver high-quality outputs within timelines.
