Analyst

We are looking for an Analyst to work on network modelling and studies that support transmission planning and renewable energy integration in India’s evolving power system. The role involves using advanced tools such as PSSE and DIgSILENT PowerFactory to perform load flow and grid stability studies under various scenarios, contributing to the development of a reliable and future-ready transmission network.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and validate PSSE and DIgSILENT PowerFactory models for existing and planned transmission systems.
  • Identify least-cost network strengthening and expansion measures to ensure reliable power system integration.
  • Support grid stability and flexibility assessments, considering emerging technologies such as electric vehicles (EVs), green hydrogen, and rooftop solar photovoltaics.
  • Integrate policy and regulatory targets into technical analyses and planning scenarios.
  • Collaborate with transmission utilities, system operators, and regulatory bodies on planning and operational studies.
  • Prepare technical reports, summaries, and presentations for stakeholder consultations and dissemination.

Skill Set

  • Experience in transmission network planning and grid integration studies.
  • Proficiency in power system analysis tools such as PSSE and DIgSILENT PowerFactory.
  • Hands-on experience in power system data management, scenario modelling, and system simulations.
  • Expertise in evaluating reactive power margins, voltage stability, and system reliability.
  • Knowledge of grid codes, CEA standards, and relevant regulatory frameworks.
  • Understanding of emerging technologies such as energy storage, green hydrogen, electric vehicles (EVs), and distributed generation.
  • Ability to incorporate policy and regulatory targets into transmission planning models and analyses.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, energy systems, or Master’s degree in power systems, energy modelling, or operations research (preferred), with 2–4 years of experience in power system modelling and transmission planning.

Job

Senior Associate

For this post, we are seeking candidates with expertise in weather/chemistry transport modelling, and satellite data analysis and visualisation. The applicant must have experience working with the Weather Research and Forecasting model with Chemistry (WRF-Chem) and/or the Comprehensive Air Quality Model with Extensions (CAMx) on High-Performance Computing (HPC) platforms. She/he should also have experience working with satellite datasets (e.g. MODIS and TROPOMI) and should be proficient in high-level programming languages for data processing.

The Senior Associate will work on WRF-CAMx and/or WRF-Chem or equivalent modelling systems to perform model inter-comparison and validation using satellite/ground-based measurements, make adjustments to the model setup to improve model performance, and assist in preparing model inputs for use in reduced-complexity model(s).

Responsibilities

  •  Develop, configure, and optimise regional-scale chemical transport models (e.g. WRF-Chem and WRF-CAMx) on HPCs.
  • Analyse and validate model outputs against ground-based and satellite measurements.
  • Create data visualisations and effectively communicate findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Generate new ideas leading to project proposals and contribute to/lead project reports/journal articles/Op-Eds, etc.
  • Participate in relevant conferences and workshops, as required.

Qualifications

  • PhD in a discipline related to air pollution, atmospheric chemistry, meteorology, or equivalent.
  • Should have studied chemistry/atmospheric chemistry and meteorology as part of the Master’s degree/PhD coursework.
  • Minimum two years of research experience in WRF-Chem, CAMx and/or any chemical transport model during PhD.

Skills set

  • Experience with CTMs: Hands-on experience with WRF-Chem/WRF-CAMx, or similar CTMs.
  • Data Analysis Skills: Ability to analyse model outputs and validate them with measurement data using statistical methods
  • Programming Skills: Proficiency in Python for data analysis and visualisation, shell scripting for running models, FORTRAN to debug model code.
  • High-Performance Computing: Familiarity with Linux/Unix and running CTM simulations on HPC systems.
  • Ability to handle large volume of datasets (NetCDF, HDF, GRIB, ASCII, geo-referenced data).
  • Should have published peer-reviewed journal articles in international journals.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for presenting findings, writing reports/journal articles, and contributing to proposals.

Job

Analyst

We are seeking a technically skilled Analyst to join our Energy Policy and Regulations team. The role focuses on distribution-system planning and operations, particularly load-flow analysis and involves assessing the impact of emerging technologies at the sub-distribution level. The Analyst will develop data-driven insights to support reliable DISCOM operations while contributing to policy-relevant research on India’s energy transition. The position also requires a strong understanding of the Indian power sector, along with the ability to manage project deliverables and communicate findings effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Lead research on distribution network load flows to assess impacts of DRE integration, EV uptake, rooftop solar, and optimal sizing/siting of BESS at feeder and DT levels.
  • Track and analyse policies, regulations, and emerging technologies in the distribution sector to generate data-driven insights for decision-making.
  • Evaluate state-level power system characteristics, including load curves and planning criteria, to inform infrastructure upgrade needs.
  • Collaborate with state and national stakeholders to develop and advance actionable recommendations.
  • Produce policy briefs, technical reports, presentations, and journal articles to communicate findings.
  • Travel across India, as required, to support stakeholder engagement and project execution.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s or Master's degree in a relevant field, such as Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Energy and Power Systems.

Skill Set

  • Experience with distribution network modelling and simulation tools (e.g. DIgSILENT and Python/R-based energy models) or transmission planning studies.
  • Strong understanding of DISCOM regulations, distribution planning criteria, and demand forecasting practices in India.
  • Familiarity with emerging technologies such as EVs, rooftop solar, energy efficiency, and solarised agricultural pumps.
  • Strong analytical and research skills, with proficiency in data analysis and the ability to interpret complex policy and regulatory documents.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, along with strong presentation skills.
