Analyst

We are looking for an Analyst to support the Adaptation and Risk Analysis team in research and project activities related to multi-hazard risk assessment, climate risk, and hazard modelling. The role will involve working with geospatial, climate, and hazard datasets; supporting flood and extreme precipitation risk assessments; and contributing to the development of analytical outputs, technical reports, and other project deliverables.

Responsibilities

  • Support hazard modelling and risk assessment for floods, extreme precipitation events, and other climate-related hazards.
  • Conduct geospatial analysis using ArcGIS/QGIS for hazard mapping, vulnerability assessment, and risk analysis.
  • Support the development of hazard susceptibility and risk maps using statistical and machine learning approaches.
  • Assist in the pre-processing, analysis, and visualisation of geospatial and climate datasets using Python/R.
  • Compile, process, and manage datasets from sources including satellite observations, climate datasets, and other relevant sources.
  • Support the use of hydraulic and hydrological modelling tools for hazard assessment.
  • Contribute to literature reviews, methodological development, and research related to hazard and climate risk modelling.
  • Prepare and contribute to technical reports, presentations, documentation, and other project outputs.
  • Collaborate with team members and support project activities, as required.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Hydrology, Water Resources, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
  • 0–1 years of relevant experience, including academic or project experience in hazard assessment, climate risk, hydrology, geospatial analysis, or related areas.
  • Demonstrated interest in working on research and projects related to natural hazards, climate risks, and adaptation.

Skill Set

  • Basic understanding of natural hazards and climate risk assessment.
  • Proficiency in GIS software, particularly ArcGIS or QGIS, is required.
  • Basic programming skills in Python or R are required.
  • Strong analytical, documentation, and communication skills.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks, work independently, and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic or hydrological modelling tools such as HEC-RAS, PC-SWMM, or similar tools would be an advantage.
  • Experience with remote-sensing data processing would be beneficial.
  • Familiarity with climate datasets, including rainfall, temperature, climate indices, and other hazard drivers, is preferred.
  • Experience handling geospatial and climate datasets would be useful.
  • Familiarity with statistical or machine learning approaches for hazard susceptibility and risk mapping would be an advantage.

Senior Associate

We are seeking a Senior Associate to join the Air Quality Policy and Outreach team at CSTEP. This role involves contributing to air pollution studies, developing strategies for government stakeholders, and producing high-quality research outputs. The role involves statistical analysis, developing and applying mathematical models, preparing emissions inventories, and applying key economic concepts. It also involves analysing and visualising data to generate actionable insights and ensuring timely delivery of project outputs.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct action-focused research, including stakeholder mapping, engagement, and policy analysis.
  • Develop emissions inventories for different polluting sectors.
  • Perform policy gap analysis and examine drivers of policy change through literature reviews and stakeholder feedback.
  • Assist the team in multidisciplinary projects, proposal writing, report writing, and project development.
  • Work on industrial emissions, including surveys and field visits.
  • Participate in relevant conferences, workshops, and training programmes to develop a comprehensive understanding of air pollution risks.
  • Develop air quality indicators relevant to the Indian context, working closely with the Atmospheric Composition Observations and Modelling teams.

Qualifications

Master’s/PhD degree in Environmental Sciences, Atmospheric Sciences, Sciences, Public Policy, Statistics, or relevant fields.

Skill Set

  • Sound knowledge of NCAP, city action plans, 15th Finance Commission reporting, and air quality management and policies in India.
  • Clear understanding of how to develop emissions inventories for air pollutants across different sectors. Experience in industrial emissions estimation is preferred.
  • Understanding of recent developments in the air quality sector.
  • Good understanding of air pollution mitigation technologies and experience in cost analysis.
  • Knowledge and hands-on experience in programming languages and data analysis tools such as Python or R. Experience with data visualisation tools such as Tableau and Power BI is preferred.
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office Suite.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary and cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality outputs within timelines.
