Dr Prakash Doraiswamy

Sector Head – Air Quality

Dr Prakash Doraiswamy is the Sector Head of the Air Quality team at CSTEP.

He holds a PhD in Air Quality from the University of Tennessee; an MS in Environmental Engineering from the Tennessee Technological University; and a BTech in Chemical Engineering from Anna University, Chennai.

Dr Doraiswamy brings over 25 years of experience in air quality science. His work spans research; capacity building; technology development; and policy support across India, Southeast Asia, and the United States.

Most recently, he served as the Director of Air Quality Science at the World Resources Institute (WRI) India, where he led technical strategy to support Indian cities in improving air quality, including emission estimation, data analysis and modelling, mitigation design, and pilot implementation. He also served as the science lead for the Clean Air Catalyst Indore pilot, a landmark initiative completed in early 2025.

Prior to his work in India, Dr Doraiswamy spent nearly two decades in the United States with RTI International, the State University of New York at Albany, the Desert Research Institute, and the University of Tennessee, leading projects funded by NASA, the US Department of State, and the Health Effects Institute. He has also been instrumental in advancing capacity-building programmes across the Global South. He also serves in leadership roles with the Air & Waste Management Association (A&WMA) as well as on editorial boards and advisory committees.

At CSTEP, Dr Doraiswamy will spearhead efforts to strengthen modelling systems and drive scalable and evidence-based air quality solutions to advance and support policy efforts.
