Training Programme on Understanding Agriculture-Based Carbon Projects: Concepts, Practices, and Opportunities

The Center for Study of Science, Technology and Policy, in collaboration with the Climate Resilience Cell (CRC) of the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment (DA&FE), Government of Odisha, is organising a three-day capacity-building and training programme for DA&FE Officials on ‘Understanding Agriculture-Based Carbon Projects: Concepts, Practices, and Opportunities.’ The programme is scheduled to be held in Bengaluru from 29 June 2026 to 1 July 2026.

Supported by the Gates Foundation, the programme is being organised as part of a project ‘Promoting Climate-Smart Agriculture for a Resilient Odisha.’ The project aims to enhance climate resilience in Odisha’s agriculture and allied sector by promoting climate-smart agriculture practices through strengthened policy frameworks, institutional capacity building to address climate risks, improved farm productivity, reduced greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, better resource-use efficiency, and the securement of farmers’ livelihoods.

The themes covered by the sessions are

  1. conceptual understanding of carbon markets,
  2. GHG emissions accounting,
  3. carbon credits,
  4. successful agricultural carbon projects, and
  5. steps to developing and implementing agriculture-based carbon projects, including baseline assessments and project documentation, followed by a field visit to a carbon project site in Bagepalli, Karnataka.

This is a closed-door event designed for DA&FE Officials only.
