The Center for Study of Science, Technology and Policy (CSTEP) held the eighth edition of its flagship event, India Clean Air Summit (ICAS) 2026. The theme for this year’s event was ‘Air Without Borders: Scaling Air Quality Action Across Cities, States, and Regions’.
ICAS brought together researchers, policymakers, practitioners, and academics to shape the narrative on air pollution and set a collective vision for forward-looking initiatives and priorities. ICAS 2026 focused on airshed-based solutions to address the scale of air pollution challenges. It helped answer why it is important to shift to a regional air quality management approach and explored how air quality data from measurements and modelling could inform policies and interventions tailored to multiple scales, beyond city or state borders.
Key highlights from ICAS 2026
– Discussions on a dedicated regional-action stream, focused on airshed-based management and implementation, and cross-scale solution that links neighbourhoods, cities, and regions
– Report launches on regional policy and governance for inter-state coordination, management, and financing
– Demonstrations of simplified airshed modelling and data tools designed for decision-makers and practitioners
– Training sessions for students and practitioners
Four new reports were launched at the event:
– Governance framework for airshed-level air quality management in South India
– Climate co-benefits of black carbon mitigation in the Indo-Gangetic Plain
