Clean Air Action Plan (CAAP)

CAPS is preparing Clean Air Action Plans for the cities of Patna, Gaya, and Muzaffarpur in Bihar.

The main goal of the project was to prepare a comprehensive city-specific clean air action plan by identifying pollution-source-specific control measures and policy interventions in collaboration with policymakers and stakeholders. The key objectives of the project were to assess the current state of air quality in the cities, determine the sources of air pollution, and identify source-specific control measures (including an evaluation of associated financial costs, as well as institutional and regulatory requirements).

The study (which aligns to NCAP) is an evidence-based research study, which will steer the policy formulation and implementation process in order to improve the ambient air quality in the cities. The CAAP provides a roadmap and time-bound strategy along with the economics for implementation of the control measures with the help of a robust techno-economic assessment. The techno-economic assessment will eventually help the state in making budgetary provisions. The CAAP intends to converge all the activities undertaken by different line departments to make more impact on ground-level interventions.

Policy Engagement
Brief
Engagement is an important activity for the centre. CAPS will engage with state- and national-level policymakers, research organisations, academic institutions, and citizens in order to reduce air pollution. The data collected from various sources will be made available for public awareness. Newspaper articles and social media will be used for further dissemination of study outcomes.
