This project is supported by a grant given by the Good Energies Foundation, Switzerland. The project is related to renewable energy technology-based solutions for socio-economic transformation of a remote village. The study includes a pilot project implementation in the state of Odisha through collaboration with an implementation partner, Sun Moksha. The project team has developed a detailed methodology to provide sustainable, economically viable, and reliable electricity to the chosen site of implementation. The pragmatic design solutions also consider energy storage options, to provide uninterrupted supply in times of need. CSTEP has also developed in-house computational tools to examine sensitivity, risk, and economics of different design configurations. The project has undertaken various activities, such as:

  • Ground survey to identify areas of interest in Bihar, Jharkhand, Orissa, Manipur, etc., with evaluating parameters such as land profile, average annual GHI profile, and demographic patterns
  • Design of mini-grids with optimal PV array size and storage options
  • Assessment of system features to support various productive loads, such as milk chilling, cold storage, irrigation, rice mill, and flour mill
  • Impact analysis of grid-extension on the levelised cost of electricity (LCOE).
