The Center for Study of Science, Technology & Policy (CSTEP) is a not-for-profit research organisation with a mission to enrich policymaking with innovative approaches, using science and technology for a sustainable, secure, and inclusive society. Our research spans across areas such as Renewable Energy, Air Pollution, Power, Urban Development, Transport, Materials and Storage, Climate and Energy Policy, and Artificial Intelligence for Development.
We, at CSTEP, believe that policymaking should be driven by evidence. In order to achieve this, we develop and use various modelling tools to analyse policy scenarios and recommend policy changes in the areas we work in. In addition, we have built multidisciplinary research capacity to include engineers, economists, policy specialists, pure and social scientists, and IT experts to ensure that our research has long-term impact and meaningful outcomes that incorporate social and economic perspectives to a scientific solution.
Our vision is to become the foremost institution for policy innovation and analysis. CSTEP is one of the largest think tanks in South Asia, and the Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India has recognised us as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (SIRO). CSTEP is registered under Section 25 of the Companies Act, 1956 and is supported by grants from the governments, industry trusts, and domestic and international foundations.
