We are seeking a Consultant to join the Adaptation and Risk Analysis team at CSTEP, contributing to the Water Ecosystem Mapping Project. The consultant will support detailed policy reviews across the water and allied sectors in India. The project aims to enhance understanding of water security by analysing sectoral and thematic policies at both state and national levels and mapping the broader ecosystem within a Climate–Water–Energy–Food (CWEF) framework.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Conduct comprehensive literature reviews to understand existing water-related frameworks, policies, and tools in the Indian context.

  • Map policies across water and allied sectors at both state and central levels, and develop a policy ecosystem database.

  • Perform detailed policy analyses of key sectors (WASH, agriculture, disasters, pollution, and governance) within the CWEF framework.

  • Undertake site visits and conduct problem assessments across major biogeographical regions of India (e.g., mountains, floodplains, Deccan plateau, and coastline).

  • Draft original policy briefs and technical reports relevant to the project.

 

Qualifications

 

Master’s degree in water management, environmental sciences, or a related field

 

Experience

 

3–5 years of full-time work experience in climate, environment, or sustainability domains. Previous experience with climate and water-related policy analyses is a must. 

 

Skill Set

 

  • Strong critical thinking, synthesis, and writing abilities.

  • Knowledge of key water management policies, concepts, and principles.

  • Good understanding of India's climate, water, and environmental ecosystems.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc).

  • Ability to work independently and manage tasks effectively.
