The group lead for Climate Adaptation and Risk Analysis will oversee a multidisciplinary team dedicated to analysing climate risks, developing adaptation strategies, and supporting stakeholders in managing climate impacts effectively. This role involves driving high-quality, actionable climate risk assessments, working closely with both internal and external stakeholders, and ensuring continuous improvement of methodologies and tools. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of climate science, risk analysis, and adaptation planning, and an ability to lead projects that address the complex challenges posed by climate change.

Responsibilities

 

Leadership and Team Management

  • Lead, mentor, and guide a team of climate risk analysts and adaptation specialists.
  • Foster a collaborative and innovative team culture that encourages knowledge-sharing and professional growth.
  • Provide direction, feedback, and support to ensure high-quality outputs aligned with organisational goals.

 

Climate Risk Analysis and Adaptation Strategy Development

  • Oversee the development and implementation of climate risk models, assessments, and scenarios to understand potential impacts on various sectors.
  • Guide the creation of tailored adaptation and resilience plans, focusing on the specific needs of different geographies and stakeholders.
  • Ensure the alignment of adaptation strategies with international frameworks (e.g., IPCC) and best practices.

 

Project Management and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Lead climate adaptation projects from inception to delivery, ensuring that timelines, budgets, and quality standards are met.
  • Engage with stakeholders (governments and CSOs) to communicate risk assessment findings and adaptation recommendations effectively.
  • Identify and assess emerging needs and opportunities in the climate adaptation space.

 

Research, Innovation, and Methodology Enhancement

  • Stay informed of the latest climate science, adaptation approaches, risk assessment tools, and regulatory changes.
  • Contribute to thought leadership, including publishing insights, presenting at conferences, and collaborating with research institutions.

 

Qualifications

 

Master’s degree or higher in Climate Science, Environmental Science, or a related field. A PhD is preferred.

 

Experience

 

12+ years of relevant experience in climate risk analysis, and adaptation strategy, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.

 

Skill Set

  • Proficiency in risk assessment tools, climate modelling, GIS, data analysis, and adaptation frameworks. Familiarity with IPCC, and climate resilience guidelines.
  • Proven experience in managing teams, projects, and budgets. Ability to motivate and develop team members.
  • Prior experience and strong ability to work with stakeholders across government, private, and non-profit sectors.
  • Ability to convey complex information to diverse audiences, including non-technical stakeholders.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail in quantitative and qualitative analyses.
  • Familiarity with sustainability reporting frameworks and climate finance.
  • Strong network within the climate science and adaptation community.
