The candidate must be well versed in the technical and policy aspects of the power sector. She/he should meet the requirements related to deliverables and project schedule and should be able to coordinate effectively with internal and external teams towards the completion of project objectives.

 

Responsibilities

  • Undertake economic analysis in the areas of power sector, such as renewable energy, electricity transmission and distribution, and energy efficiency, to inform policy decisions.
  • Conduct research related to the supply and use of energy (conventional and non-conventional).
  • Develop financial/econometric models pertaining to the power sector.
  • Prepare medium- to long-term energy sector outlook reports for various states.
  • Compile energy market data and analyse market trends, including demand, supply, and price projections.
  • Establish communication and coordinate for data/analysis with the relevant stakeholders for the power sector.
  • Document and publish the research findings through detailed reports, journals articles, conference papers, op-eds, newsletters, etc.
  • Conduct independent research to uncover engaging insights, and draft compelling content for CSTEP's social media handles to boost outreach and engagement.

 

 

Qualifications

 

     Master’s degree or its equivalent in Economics, Finance, Business Studies, or a related field.

 

 

Experience

  • 2-3 years of experience in conducting economic analysis related to power sector.
  • Expertise in carrying out cost-benefit, life-cycle cost, impacts, forecasting, market penetration, and consequences analyses.
  • Willingness to undertake technical and policy research in the power sector domain.
  • Experience in working with regulatory commissions, generating companies, distribution utilities, renewable nodal agencies, ministries, and government bodies.
  • Basic understanding of power purchase agreements, electricity market design, deviation settlement mechanism, demand response, and open-access mechanism.
  • Ability to write high-quality research reports, white papers, journals, policy briefs, etc.

 

 

Skill Set

  • Proficiency in utilising MS Excel for demand forecasting.
  • Competence in using statistical tools (Python, R, SAS, Tableau, SPSS, etc.) to develop economic models and derive results.
  • Proven ability to perform economic assessments of grid-based power system alternatives.
  • Willingness to travel frequently to collect necessary data and discuss study findings.
  • Ability to make effective and timely decisions.
  • Good listener with demonstrated ability to present and win support for ideas.
