The candidate must be well versed in the technical and policy aspects of the power sector and have a strong functional knowledge of GIS techniques and applications. She/he should meet the requirements related to project proposals, deliverables, and schedules. The candidate should also be able to coordinate and communicate effectively with internal and external teams to meet the project objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate the current developments and technologies regarding renewable energy (RE) and energy efficiency (EE) across states, and national and international stages.
  • Work at the nexus of RE/EE and GIS. Ideate how GIS can be used to improve decision- and policy-making in this sector.
  • Conduct studies relevant to RE policies/regulations and develop a clear understanding to generate valuable inputs.
  • Develop concept notes, project ideas, and proposals around relevant subjects considering their high relevance and social impacts.
  • Perform research activities and modelling tasks and develop a strong knowledge base of the existing technologies, transformations, business models, and RE sector’s behaviour and performance.
  • Coordinate with various stakeholders in the sector, including utility companies, regulators, funding agencies, government bodies, and other research institutions.
  • Document and publish the research findings in detailed reports, journals, conference papers, op-eds, and newsletters.
  • Prepare medium- to long-term outlooks for the RE and EE sectors for various states.


Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or its equivalent in Engineering, Business, or a related field.

 

Experience

  • 1–2 years of relevant professional experience in policy and economic analysis and GIS applications related to RE and EE sectors.
  • Experience in writing high-quality research reports, including white papers, journals, and policy briefs.
  • Expertise in conducting GIS-based studies and cost–benefit, life-cycle, impacts, forecasting, market penetration, and consequences analyses.
  • Experience in working with regulatory commissions, DISCOMs, transmission utilities, renewable nodal agencies, solar system integrators/developers, ministries, and government bodies.

 

Skill Set

  • Competence in using software and statistical tools such as MS Excel and Tableau (knowledge of Python, R, and SAS will be an advantage) to develop economic business models.
  • Familiarity with concepts of tariff determination, regulatory reforms, financial modelling, retail tariff design, market assessments, open access, energy auditing, ACS–ARR, etc.
  • Willingness to undertake technical and policy research in the RE and EE sector domains.
  • Basic understanding of concepts of power purchase agreements, electricity market design, deviation settlement mechanism, demand response, and open access.
  • Competence in using GIS tools such as ArcGIS and QGIS.
  • Proven ability to assess RE and EE sector operations to derive innovative alternatives and approaches for problem solving.
  • Willingness to travel frequently to collect necessary data and discuss study findings.
  • Ability to make effective and timely decisions.
  • Good listener with demonstrated ability to present and win support for ideas.
