Swagata Dey is a Policy Specialist in the Policy Development and Outreach group within the Air Quality sector at CSTEP.
She completed her MS in Materials Chemistry from Ohio State University, USA. She also holds a Master's in Environmental Sciences from TERI University, New Delhi, and a Bachelor's in Chemistry from Miranda House, Delhi University.
Prior to joining CSTEP, Swagata worked as a Project Manager at Enviornmental Defense Fund, India, wherein she led the Local Air Management Plan (LAMP) programme and helped city governments in creating actionable strategies for addressing issues of air pollution hotspots. She was also the Deputy Programme Manager for Clean Air at the Centre for Science and Environment, New Delhi, where she worked on developing clean air action plans for five states.
Swagata has been a regular contributor to Down to Earth and TerraGreen, has authored book chapters on sustainability, and has published several reports and scientific papers. She is the recipient of the University Fellowship at Ohio State University, Portland, and the Women in Science Award, and was also a Community Service Leader for Association for India’s Development (AID), Columbus Chapter.
Her core areas of interest include air pollution monitoring and policy, clean transportation, science communication, advocacy, and strategy development.
