The Consultant will be involved in a short-term project that aims to assess the relevance of cost-benefit analysis in prioritising nature-based solutions for coastal adaptation. This work will be in the climate change adaptation domain within the Climate, Environment, and Sustainability sector.


Responsibilities

  •  Evaluate the requirements for coastal adaptation in selected cities and develop a comprehensive cost-benefit analysis (CBA) methodology based on ecosystem services assessment.
  • Develop CBA scenarios (without NbS, alternative NbS, phased/partial NbS, planned NbS) for the two contexts, based on pre-selected list of NbS typologies.
  • Compute total costs of interventions, and the benefits generated, payback period, net present value, benefit to cost ratio, and aggregation of costs and benefits in different periods to a single value using a discount rate.
  • Contribute to NbS repository with new, relevant NbS economic evaluation methods (if any), associated policies. and publications.
  • Generate data, presentation, and explainer for the CBA results.

 

Qualifications

 

Master's degree in economics, environmental economics, financial economics or any discipline of social sciences with sound command over statistical skills.
 

Experience

 

At least 3 years of experience working on development-related issues and a good understanding of urban infrastructure and cost-benefit analysis.


Skill Set

  • Applied knowledge of cost-benefit analysis and other economic evaluation methods for nature-based solutions.
  • Strong understanding of environmental economics.
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills, and prior CBA experience.
  • Critical-thinking skills: systematic interpretation of findings to contribute to innovative research methodology.
  • Ability to work independently and within the larger framework of a team.
  •  Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point), Matlab/Python.
