OUR MISSION: TO ENRICH POLICY-MAKING WITH INNOVATIVE APPROACHES USING SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY FOR A SUSTAINABLE, SECURE AND INCLUSIVE SOCIETY

SANITECH

The tool (Proof-of-Concept) for platform for integrated sanitation investment planning is supported by funds from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. This tool will support city-wide sanitation planning by providing information on sanitation systems through an integrated assessment of technologies and their respective benefits and associated costs and also

•    Facilitate an integrated approach to the sanitation investment planning process for Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) in India
•    Provide a repository of information on sanitation system options
•    Allow decision makers to examine these options considering resource constraints
•    Evaluate impact of the sanitation system options through a set of ward and city level indicators
•    Illustrate differences in current and improved scenarios enabling informed decision making in the sanitation sector.

Benefits
•    Analyses the impact of different sanitation systems (networked and non-networked), on accessibility, environment, health and cost
•    Compiles system and ward data, thereby reducing cost of information collection
•    Enables cities to invest resources in a manner that improves city-wide delivery
•    Built with an interactive GIS enabled user interface
•    Can be used as a capacity building tool.

Beneficiaries
•    Decision-makers in Urban Local Bodies (ULBs)
•    Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD) and its technical/capacity building departments.
•    Government of India (GoI)
•    Technology developers to understand the sanitation needs within an urban context
•    Technocrats and consultants while proposing different sanitation systems to decision-makers to increase the coverage and access to safe sanitation, especially for the urban poor.
